Last week was a liquidity drain due to the SpaceX IPO, this week was early investors hedging their locked shares. A lot of what we've seen is flow and positioning, not business fundamentals. $VSAT: Viasat today announced it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Space Force’s (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) to build, launch and deliver the first of a proliferated fleet of small, maneuverable geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO) satellites under the Protected Tactical SATCOM-Global (PTS-G) program. The new Swarm 1 Delivery Order contract builds on Viasat’s completion of the Delivery Order 1 (DO1) phase awarded in 2025, where the company successfully matured a system design for a resilient, low size, weight and power (SWaP) GEO satellite and associated ground architecture to dynamically support key hot spot service areas. $VSAT: Viasat today announced it has been selected by Lockheed Martin to provide high-bandwidth satellite communications technology in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation C‑130J Hercules “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft program. Viasat’s government SATCOM team will support Lockheed Martin’s delivery of two specially modified C-130J aircraft, with prime contract options for additional aircraft. These C-130J Super Hercules aircraft will be designed to serve as airborne laboratories that collect critical environmental data to improve hurricane forecasting and severe weather prediction. These next-generation aircraft are expected to enter service by 2030, replacing legacy platforms and significantly enhancing NOAA’s ability to gather mission critical atmospheric data in extreme operating environments.

$VSAT: The U.S. Space Force has awarded Viasat and Intelsat, a combined $437.7 million contract to provide space vehicles for the Protected Tactical Satellite-Global, or PTS-G, program. The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts cover the development and delivery of space vehicles in support of the PTS-G program. The work will include design activities and demonstration support and will be carried out at the companies’ respective facilities through March 19, 2029.

I mentioned the $UFO ETF will surge because of $SPCX IPO... but $NASA will undoubtedly rally harder. And I'll explain why this is important. $UFO is a broad pure-play. $RKLB, $PL, $VSAT, $GSAT, ~54 names total, but no $SPCX exposure. > Up ~150% over the past year on defense satellite contracts and the broader space rerating > Top 10 holdings make up ~40% of the fund, and several names are still burning cash, so the volatility exists. But the thesis is clean: Own the public companies building the infrastructure. $NASA on the other hand, launched March 31 this year, has one big selling point... ~10% $SPCX exposure held through an SPV. That was the main pitch. And it worked, the fund crossed $1B AUM in 37 trading days. Here's why it's important... The $SPCX position inside $NASA is currently marked at the previous private market valuation. Once $SPCX trades publicly on June 12, that position re-rates to live trading price (subject to lockup). When $SPCX opens significantly above its IPO price (remember the Nasdaq-100 inclusion?)... the SPV value increases significantly, which flows directly into $NASA's NAV. $UFO doesn't have that mechanic. It only captures secondary effects... $RKLB rallying as the proxy, sector rotation, general space enthusiasm. Add the fact that $NASA is the only pure-play space ETF with SpaceX exposure pre-IPO... retail piling in to get pre-IPO access is exactly what's driving the AUM growth. Tripled AUM in a single week. $375M of inflows in one day. That momentum shouldn't slow into the actual IPO event. For broad sector exposure: $UFO works well. For the cleanest and direct IPO catalyst capture, $NASA is the play. Alternatively, there's another way to ride an even bigger wave than what $NASA will get... I'll share it on Tuesday. 🫡

$RKLB | The UAE’s @space42ai isn’t just looking to build Equatys, their direct-to-device constellation with @viasat, they’re also trying to move forward with an Earth observation constellation. This is all the more relevant with recent fighting seen in the region. Space42 already uses SAR satellites obtained through a Finnish company, but would like to expand into electro-optical (EO) sensing, and perhaps other payloads too. Rumors have recently indicated that $RKLB may be asked to build some or all of the 2,800 satellite buses planned for the Equatys constellation. Simultaneously (but unrelated), retail investors have suggested $RKLB could use its $1B ATM offering to purchase $BKSY, an electro-optical satellite imagery company. $RKLB also has the capability to build its own EO/IR payloads (and more) in-house after acquiring Geost last year. It would seem that $RKLB may be the ideal partner for Space42 & $VSAT on these two different initiatives. In regard to the Equatys buildout, Space42 & Viasat said they were “open to bringing others onboard,” and that “the agreement to bring on a third strategic partner is in the final stages of contract finalization.” Who could it be? Also, this: “Space42 alone plans to put about $600 million into Equatys, with the goal of starting to launch satellites in 2028 and being operational either late that year or early 2029.
