$IONQ is a top 5 position in my growth portfolio but context really matters because I built a 11% position when the stock at ~$6. Quantum is still very early and I don’t think anyone should pretend it is going to have its “ChatGPT moment” anytime soon since large-scale commercial quantum advantage is still years away and timeline could easily take longer than the market wants. That said I’m willing to underwrite the volatility because I view quantum more as a national security theme because the first major customers will likely be governments, defense agencies, national labs, pharma companies & energy companies due to the implications for encryption, navigation, timing, sensing & secure communications. That said, I have a lot of cushion here, and I’m still willing to underwrite the volatility because I think the first major quantum customers will be governments, defense agencies, national labs, pharma companies and energy companies. If quantum becomes important then the category should be big enough for specialized leaders to matter and I think IonQ has a real shot at being the pure-play category leader.

I recently had a chance to speak with someone currently working at $IonQ as well. It does seem like there is a growing trend of market attention shifting back toward quantum computing, so we had a very interesting discussion about the technology. After that conversation, I find myself leaning a bit more positive on $IonQ. I already have quite a long list of article ideas, so I am not sure how soon I will be able to write it, but I am thinking of covering $IonQ in an article sometime soon.

The market is starting to figure out what the research already shows quantum provides no matrix multiplication speedup. That's the core workload AI runs on. Decided to go long on $INFQ. Infleqtion is a brand new Quantum Computing IPO that I've been watching. Quantum names like: $IONQ ($11B+) or $RGTI ($5.1B) typically command large premiums (trapped-ion/superconducting qubits). But, Infleqtion is the first public pure-play in neutral-atom quantum computing. While most others are speculative, Inflection already has use cases as their quantum sensing division + products like quantum optical clocks, RF receivers, and inertial sensors, are utilized by NASA and the US military. I've been erring on the side of caution on Quantum Computing names, as Quantum especially, is not valued based on traditional P/E, P/S. But the technology + national security risks are monumental, and foreign governments are pouring money into the space. And $INFQ seems to be head of the game. As a result, I personally decided allocate a small percentage toward Infleqtion ( $INFQ ) as exposure to quantum computing.

Something @VASTCNC said the other day got me thinking about $IONQ after the $SKYT news He mentioned he’s interested in nearly every part of IonQ’s business outside of core quantum computing: Capella Space, Vector Atomic, Skyloom’s optical terminals, and now SkyWater. Assets he’d be happy to own as standalone companies. So I went deeper on what IonQ has really been assembling through acquisitions. The more I map it out, the more it reads like a deliberate attempt to build relevance across a wider quantum infrastructure stack: secure communications, sensing and timing, optical links, and domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity. The shift in framing so that the conversation doesn’t have to be only about the end-state of quantum computing. It can also be about how IonQ creates economic value across adjacent categories that already have buyers, budgets, and procurement cycles especially across government, defense, and critical infrastructure. So instead of viewing IonQ as a single-thread story, it looks like a multi-thread strategy: expand the surface area of the business, bring in teams/IP in areas with nearer-term demand, and keep building toward the longer-term compute roadmap in parallel. Execution is the whole ballgame here. The $IONQ CEO went on Bloomberg this morning claiming their quantum compute will surpass all $NVDA GPU compute by 2027 — and even called Blackwell a joke. This kind of hype ends in tears. IonQ will be adding another Q in due time. 😭 @MartinShkreli https://t.co/B8UKUZV00G

$IONQ Capella Space, which specialises in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and satellite solutions, will now operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of IonQ. The acquisition is part of IonQ’s strategy to develop a space-to-space and space-to-ground satellite quantum key distribution (QKD) network. Capella Space CEO Frank Backes said: "Capella has been a long-time pioneer in space technology and we can now take actionable steps to push the boundaries further by building the first quantum-enabled Earth observation platform." This is anticipated to enhance IonQ’s capability to launch a QKD network for secure communication by preventing encryption key interception or duplication.
