ELECTRONICS (DEFENSE)
While the Space segment gets the headlines, the Defense side is the larger, legacy engine of Sypris Electronics.
It is defined by its role as a "Trusted Source" for the DoD and major Tier 1 Primes, focusing on electronics that must survive "high-cost-of-failure" combat environments.
Their Electronic Warfare (EW) & Signal Intelligence products are their most explosive growth area as of 2025–2026. They also carved out a significant niche in the subsea communication market.
🗓️In June 2022, Sypris won a multi-year contract supporting the U.S. Navy’s electronic warfare programs, focusing on secure and hardened communications, cryptographic modules, and advanced signal processing electronics.
🗓️In July 2025, the company secured major follow-on awards for subsea communication networks, with production scheduled to run through 2026.
🗓️In September 2025, Sypris announced a new contract for production of electronics for a classified missile avionics program, reinforcing its position in high-reliability defense systems.
Primes don’t build this in-house because maintaining compliance is expensive, operationally heavy, and not core to their mission. $SYPR specializes in that burden and that provides a serious competitive moat.
