The Cox family is going to own over 20% of $CHTR once the deal closes, giving them a huge voice in future capital allocation (particularly as John Malone plays a less active role). Cox has historically run with a much less leveraged balance sheet, and the family will have enormous skin in the game. If it were my family fortune on the line, and given all of the cross currents in media and broadband today, I would likely choose to establish a meaningful dividend while mostly paying down debt. (That said, at current dislocated stock prices, I would be buying back stock hand-over-fist.)

I think $CHTR stock goes higher in all three of these scenarios, as there are strong constituencies rooting for each: - Suspending buybacks to reduce debt - Initiating a large dividend and using the remaining cash flow to pay down debt - Continuing aggressive stock buybacks

Interesting that some people have claimed that buybacks are the same as dividends (they are not). Three scenarios: 1. Stock keeps going up by a considerable amount: buybacks are a supercharged version of dividends. This is the preferred scenario for any LT holder 2. Stock does not keep going up: buybacks are a waste of money 3. Stock crashes: buybacks accelerated the capital destruction I believe many people think that companies that do buybacks tend to fall in the first group, but a lot of them don’t. Wonder what Charter $CHTR shareholders think about buybacks = dividends

Reiterating $CHTR as my favorite idea -- they got dropped from the $QQQ today, so the stock *should* finally be washed out. In particular, I like the 2028 call options (just out-of-the-money) as a way to play it. It is a levered way to play a very levered equity on a long-dated basis... and the calls also trade at a discount to the cash $CHTR will generate between now and 2028.

Is $GPN $CHTR? I think the Charter analogy is wrong. Charter was a local monopoly that over-earning on an overpriced consumer product, then got hit by real substitutes: fiber, FWA, streaming, and cord-cutting. That is actual unit-economics destruction from new technology. Payments is not that. There is competition, fee pressure, and execution risk, but GPN is not being bypassed by a fundamentally superior new network in the same way cable was. If these were true commodity businesses, you would not see decades of recurring revenue, high margins, sticky SMB/ISV channels, and the ability to lever, delever, and buy back stock. The bearish case on GPN is not “commodity.” The real bearish case is “mature low-growth processor with take-rate pressure and integration risk.” That is a very different claim. What changed is price. Five years ago the business was messier and the multiple treated it like it was safe. Today it is being priced much closer to a melting-ice-cube despite being more focused, more disciplined on capital return, and with a competitive threat that looks less existential than people feared. I’m not saying there is no risk. I’m saying this is absolutely not Charter" Robot says some risk I says no risk

$HLIT (~$1.65B) controls more than 95% of the software that every major US cable company needs to upgrade their network for the AI era. Every time you stream, video call, or ask an AI app a question, that data runs through a cable line owned by Comcast, Charter, or Cox. Upstream traffic is now growing 21.7% a year and the old cable standard cannot keep up. The fix is called DOCSIS 4.0. It takes cable from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps with much faster upload speeds. Every Tier-1 operator is being forced to upgrade or lose subscribers to fiber. There is only one company that sells the software to run those upgraded networks at scale. HLIT. Comcast, Charter, Cox, and Altice all run its cOS platform. 150 customers and 45.7M cable modems live on it today. Charter alone has committed $5.5B to this upgrade through 2027. It has been a bull market, but not everywhere. There are MANY stocks down heavily YTD and while semis and AI can continue the rally, there are names that have been compounding and growing earnings but getting zero love from the market due to the sector they are in. I really do wonder if we will look back in a few years and see these as incredible opportunities OR if the liquidity around SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic and many of the "picks and shovels" of AI lead to these names being stuck for years. Not an easy time to have them in the portfolio, but it also may be worth looking at beaten up names if you can practice delaying gratification and buying incredible companies when they are hated the most IF those companies are not giving you a thesis-breaking reason to explain why they are down YTD but rather being influenced by a macro/thematic reason. I purchased a large amount of $CHTR equity and medium-dated calls this past week Stock is left for dead at $145 Enormous FCF which is inflecting higher as capex declines, $50 per share or more in sight for 2028 Competition is intense but strong wireless upsells provide an offset Debt has average maturity of 12 years with 5.1% avg cost, provides lots of optionality No one wants to own it in front of SpaceX IPO; I view the completion of the IPO as a positive catalyst as overhang is lifted Closing Cox/Liberty deals this summer should be another positive catalyst, helping to de-lever balance sheet Can continue to buyback an enormous amount of stock while also de-levering John Malone has hinted at shifting to paying out dividends, which would be huge catalyst Consolidation remains an option, there would be significant cost and competitive synergies by combining with a wireless carrier Fortunately, I have not previously owned $CHTR and lack the scars of others

With $CHTR shares now trading sub $150, maybe it is time to slap a $20-25 annual dividend on the stock and use the rest of its FCF to de-lever. Buybacks seem like a bridge to nowhere.

$CMCSA has shown some signs of life, particularly after adding back the value of the $VSNT spin. I am peeling off some of these long-dated calls but am not touching the large common stock position I accumulated in H2 '25. I also recently purchased $CHTR.

John Malone on CNBC today essentially argued for why $CMCSA and $CHTR should cut back on buybacks and capex while ramping shareholder dividends — specifically noting that $VZ trades at a better multiple due to its dividend policy. (Long $CMCSA and long-dated OTM $CMCSA calls)
