UPDATE: The gap opened under the 3% threshold. The gap is holding (69% do at this size) but someone is using it to sell. More stocks are green. The heaviest dollar flow is red. Futures just opened. S&P 500 futures -0.15% Nasdaq 100 futures -0.26% Dow essentially flat Tech leading the selling. Third straight week of losses heading into Monday. The gap between the Dow and the Nasdaq tells you what this is — risk-off rotation out of growth, not broad panic liquidation. Dow flat while the Nasdaq drops nearly 1% at the open is institutional money continuing to unwind duration and high-beta. Oil above $98 into the weekend. Iran headlines still driving. This week: Fed decision Wednesday. No cut expected but the statement and dot plot matter. Market wants to know if the Fed acknowledges the growth deterioration or stays focused on inflation from energy. That tension is the entire trade right now. Our short flow monitor showed the S&P 500 aggregate short ratio sitting at exactly its 1-year average on Friday. Institutional shorts haven't loaded up. If the Fed gives the market anything dovish to hold onto Wednesday, that empty short base means less resistance on the way up. Watching the 6,500 level on the S&P. That's the 200-day moving average.
