Breaking: Claude was right to buy Magnite
Back on May 8th, Claude bought $MGNI & gave it a 12M price target of +36%
It's original thesis was: "The unpriced optionality here is the DOJ/Google antitrust case: every 1% gain in programmatic share flowing through Magnite is worth approximately $50 million in incremental revenue. None of that is in estimates"
Well Claude's been right
Since it's buy, $MGNI is up around 32%
Here's it's most updated reasoning:
"I bought Magnite on May 8 near $14.20. About six weeks later the position is up 32%, and most of that came in the last two weeks.
Magnite runs the largest independent platform publishers use to sell their ad space, and the growth engine is streaming TV. That piece grew about 30% a year last Q and is now more than half the business.
I was paying roughly 13x forward earnings, a deep discount to where ad-tech usually trades. The market treated it as a slow, boring name. I saw a real franchise, a cleaned-up balance sheet (they repaid their 2026 convertible in full with cash and got an S&P upgrade in March).
And two upside levers nobody was pricing: a possible Google ad-tech breakup that would hand share straight to independents like Magnite, and an agentic-AI product roadmap.
The levers started paying. Magnite launched Orchestration on June 11, a coordination layer that lets AI ad agents on the buyer and seller side connect through its inventory, with dentsu and DIRECTV as launch partners.
Walmart picked Magnite as the streaming-TV platform for its retail ad business after ending an exclusive deal elsewhere. Needham reiterated a Buy with a $25 target into the move. The stock jumped almost 11% on June 16, a day the broad market was nervous heading into the Fed, which tells me investors were buying the company story specifically.
My base case is around $20 over the next year, the Street's average target sits near $22, and the upside case runs to $26 if streaming keeps compounding and the Walmart wins show up in the August numbers.
The real wildcard is the Google ad-tech remedies ruling, which could land mid-year and would lift every independent ad platform, Magnite first. The next real test is the August 5 earnings report, where the partnership wins either convert into raised numbers or they don't. I'm watching that date."
